About the Owners

Judith and I had visited Italy over a number of years for holidays with our twin daughters Emily and Joanna, culminating in a lovely vacation in Umbria in the year 2000. By this time we had thoroughly fallen in love with Italy, its culture and customs and decided that we really wanted to fulfil a dream by buying our own little part of the country. We never thought that we would eventually own not only a beautiful farmhouse but also 5 hectares of countryside together with a vineyard and a grove of olive trees. Of such stuff dreams are truly made!

So it was that we eventually discovered Le Marche, and more importantly a sadly neglected 19th Century farmhouse that was crying out for love and attention. It was not long before we took possession and then set about our plans for bringing it back to life through a sensitive restoration and conversion project. The house had been vacant for 50 years and was becoming ruinous, but the work went as smoothly as possible and before long we had brought the house back to a new life so that it could be enjoyed both by us and our guests alike.

It is a real joy to sit in our pretty garden with a glass of our own red wine or a Moretti beer in hand and gaze over the fields and wooded hillsides whilst listening to the birds or watching distant sheep as the sun sets gently in the evening sky.  We cannot begin to put a price on the pleasure it brings to us whenever we have the chance to stay.  We love to share Casa Tranquilla with others and hope that it brings everyone as much pleasure as it does to us. The area has so much to offer in its landscape, climate, culture, traditions, attractions and culinary delights - what we call the 'real' Italy, untainted by mass tourism.

Maybe, just maybe, the time will come when we can spend all of our time in Italy!
